Idle wrote the music for Spam-a-lot with John DuPrez. Didn't he win a Tony for the music?
Apparently it's worth a heck of a lot!

I was surprised by 50 cent piece. I know my niece listens to him but, beyond that, I'd have expected Britney or the like.

The list didn't include these estates:
Presley, Elvis $50m
Nirvana $50m

edit:
Yes, he won several Tonys. One for the music.

Britney hasn't toured since 2004. Most of the artists on the list above toured in 2005. That's where the big money is. As for CD sales, well, from the start, Britney's music has been so trend-conscious that today, her back catalog is almost worthless -- commercially, as well as artistically.

Yeah, makes sense there would be at least one rapper at the top - just surprised it was 50 cents.

Looks like Britney is now old school! Relegated to the Debby Gibson trivia pool. That signals the loss of an entire branch of the media.

The Nirvana income included Courtney's sale of the back catalog/rights.

Joke::
Q-What's worse than Courtney Love with 50 million dollars?

No, we're not quite so lucky yet. There's still plenty of media saturation regarding Britney, as any trip through a grocery store checkout line will confirm. That kind of media interest can easily outlast any commercial success or "cultural impact" that a celebrity ever had. Just look at Whitney Houston. (On second thought, don't.)

If the "branch of the media" you're referring to is the teen magazine coverage, well, perhaps those writers and photographers can get work with the tabloids.
