Thank you, Philippe. It wasn't a perfect show; I cued the wrong mix of "Fashion," and a couple of times I missed the cues to start the next song, leaving a bit of dead air. (I was really exhausted; even before we got the bad news of Bowie's passing, the preceding night was pretty bereft of sleep.) But I feel I did right by His Ziggyness.

One listener called to request "TVC 15" during the Comateens version of that song. I pointed out, "I'm playing that right now." He paused to listen, and said, "That doesn't sound like the version I know! Is that a remix or something?"

Another caller said he wanted to hear a particular Bowie song. He didn't know the title, or the album it came from, or the decade of its release; all he could give me for a clue was a lyrical fragment: "It has a line that sounds like, 'From Shadrach to Malchus' ... or maybe it's the other way around." I told him that wasn't ringing a bell. He said, "Oh well, it's a pretty obscure track; I'm not surprised you don't know it." I wanted to reply, "Yeah, I guess it must be, since you obviously don't know it either." But I kept that to myself.

And yeah, it's the MyChem/Used version of "Under Pressure."

That comes from "Station to Station."

I only remember that because long ago I read an article about whether or not Station to Station was originally intended to be the soundtrack to The Man Who Fell To Earth and that line was used as evidence that it was, as apparently Kether and Malkuth are some sort of mythological words for sky and earth. Or something like that.

EDIT: I looked it up and see that on the Kabbalah Tree of Life, Kether is the topmost "branch" while Malkuth is at the bottom. Kether is referred to as the crown of Heaven, which I guess explains where Kether Donahue, who plays the chaotic but cute best friend on You're the Worst got her name. So to move from Kether to Malkuth is going from top to bottom, or falling to Earth.

Bonus points for playing Loose Ends cover of "Golden Years!" I once saw a video for that squeezed on the end of "London Calling" on MTV as the credits rolled and thought that was a superb cover of that song. I've since looked at every Loose Ends recording I've ever seen in a vain attempt to find that track… lets say for 30 years now?

Wow, I'm just a bit embarrassed that I didn't guess it was "Station to Station." I've listened to that song enough times that "from ______ to ______" should've clicked with me.

Glad you liked the Loose Ends, Monk. Hopefully the "bonus points" make up for cueing the wrong mix of "Fashion."

Sorry, I'm still not doing so well here. My wife and I were awakened very late Sunday night by a lot of shouting and noise next door. It turned out that our neighbor had caught a burglar, and was keeping the guy down till the cops arrived. Well, after that got settled, my wife (not surprisingly) found it hard to fall back to sleep, so she pulled up her phone and started surfing the net. Soon she woke me back up with the news about Bowie. Fat chance of getting back to sleep after that. Between the sad sense of loss and the sleep deprivation, I'm not at my best.

Eh, you're manning a turntable or two (or some digital equivalent), answering phones, trying to make sure everything is queued up properly, and some guy is giving you vague information and asking you to read his mind. I think you can be forgiven for being a bit distracted.

I listened to the replay of the show over the week-end. Very nice. There have been a lot of tributes paid to Bowie over the last week, but yours was perfect and particularly impressive because it was put together so quickly.

If you had not mentioned you missed a couple of cues, I don't think I would have noticed. You're too hard on yourself.
