How can we miss you if you don't go away???????

How can we miss you if you don't go away???????

I like LCD Soundsystem's music, but man, does their self-mythologizing get on my nerves. At least be gone more than, what, two years? before embarking on your triumphant reunion tour.

This will surely spawn a Blu-Ray commemorative edition, in either the single disc version for cheapskates or the deluxe nine disc set, with five discs covering a show from multiple camera angles, a two disc documentary on the the importance of LCD Soundsytem as the major band of the 21st century, a single disc Making of the Box Set documentary, and a final disc of footage of James Murphy shaving, as each box set will come with a numbered baggie of James Murphy stubble and shaving foam, to ensure that sometime in the distant future someone will have genetic material from which he can be cloned for when the world truly needs LCD Soundsystem to save the day again.

And oh yes, the cheapskate single disc version will feature completely different footage from any of the discs in the nine-disc megaset, meaning that every resident of Brooklyn will have to own both the single disc and the monster box.

I guess the reunion gig thing has a faster burn cycle these days -- or maybe it just does for LCD Soundsystem. The band performed its farewell gigs in 2011. But as widely lauded as the group was, to my observation, its music has had a short shelf life. Perhaps James Murphy recognized this, and figured the window for a lucrative reunion was likely to close sooner, rather than later.

Or perhaps he realized that his other projects are recognized and appreciated only by true music nerds, such as the guys on this board. Founding/running DFA Records, producing/mixing other artists, developing new PA systems for clubs, curating art installations, introducing a signature espresso ... These are all fine, and may be lucrative too, but they probably don't get him laid.

2011! I could've sworn it was two years ago at most. Guess it's just another reminder of how time flies when you're an old man.

Well, at least that lasted longer than Gary Numan's retirement.

I think since so much of LCD Soundsystem's appeal lay in its crate-digging music-mythologizing ("Losing My Edge!") that Murphy is well attuned to the reunion-tour cynicism. But I think they're cool, regardless.
