I'm all for skewering sacred cows if there's some point in it besides just a desire to be outrageous. Not sure what Casale thought he was accomplishing with a twin towers wedding cake and box cutter party favors.

If he just wanted to rile people up, mission accomplished I guess. I don't know what else he achieved, beyond being a jerk.

How long after a traumatic event is it okay to make light of it at a wedding or some similar affair? Well, considering that Paula Deen was crucified (rightly so) for doing a plantation & slavery themed party, I'd say at least 150 years, and that's only a starting point. Hell, a Columbus colonizes America themed party would get you killed, and that's 500 years.

I reckon the destruction of Pompeii might be okay at this point. Any tragedy more recent than that, you're probably going to land in a bit of hot water if you throw a jokey party commemorating it.

This, of course, is the same musician who thought a faux Iranian named "Jihad Jerry" would be pretty funny. Even then, he had at least a semblance of a rationale. He said that the character had "declared jihad on stupidity." When he tried opening a few of Devo's shows as Jihad Jerry, though, he found out that five years after 9/11 was too soon to expect audiences to get the joke.

Oh well ... congratulations to the happy couple.

Well, his bride is only 26 years old - she probably doesn't even remember 9/11! It's just ancient history to her.

Casale says that the cake and the party favors were a surprise from a friend who thought it would appeal to his sense of humor, given that he was getting married on 9/11.

Which, if true, probably is not an unfair assumption on the part of the friend. He probably DID think it was funny. He should also school said friend on the fine art of Public Relations.
