help wanted

i do a lot of on line scoring of essays (act's, sat's) and stereo/headphones are kind of out of the question when the martini martian is napping or chasing dora the explorer around

i found some decent streaming oldies stations; wfmu sometimes doesn't play 90 minute prog/electronic music samples from italy ca 1973.

soooooo...

was wondering if you all had some super secret (double probation) internet channels that played killer, no filler, stuff

KXLU's my fave (streaming thru Live365), but it's "fine arts" during the evenings (6:00pm to 10 or 11pm Mon-Thu), Latin during weekend days.

[a444.l2241452200.c22414.n.lm.akamaistream.net]

IS great.

I streamed it in where I work (hotel and college dorm combo) but when asked the inevitable "who is that?" ...I couldn't answer. so I wrote down the address, xerox'd it and now I just pass it out when they approach with that quizzical look.
Here's to higher education.

thank you.

Have you tried Pandora?

This isn't a radio station, per se. You register (it's free), then create a "radio station" based on a specific band or song. You can create multiple stations, and they're saved for you to come back to anytime.

Pandora is kind of a music genome experiment, which takes your input and provides other music in that style or genre that you might like. It's streaming, so all you need is a browser with the Shockwave Flash plugin installed.

You can reject songs you don't like, or ask for more of that group or style. You can also save songs you like in a playlist, so you can come back to them.

You can turn it on, and just let it play.

In a similar vein, check out LastFM:

This works in a smiliar fashion to Pandora, but you can choose to share information with other users on the site. Users can recommend things to one another based on their tastes. This used to be called Audioscrobbler. There are plugins you can use that will send the titles of music you play on your computer to your LastFM account. Also very cool, and it has a similar radio feature.
