I only saw him once, at the Zu Manifestival in NYC around 1979. They set up an panel discussion with all these serious dudes like Chris Cutler and I think Christgau to discuss developments in music, Allen sat there silent until someone asked "What's your position, Daevid?". He immediately stood on his head.
