"New Feeling" by Talking Heads ... heard in the grocery yesterday afternoon.

That's a good one! I heard "Stay Up Late" recently, but that's not too surprising, the whole "Little Creatures" album is as unchalleging as most supermarket music.

I heard "Tesla Girls" somewhere unexpected recently, too, but I can't for the life of me remember where.

Oh yeah - it was on a rerun of Castle that was on cable the other day. Not as nifty as overhearing it in a grocery store, but still a nice surprise.

I was in a restaurant a few weeks back where the muzak seemed to be all folk covers of rock songs. Heard acoustic coffee house style versions of "Starman" and "Waltz #2," which I wouldn't have thought needed an acoustic coffee house style version due to it being redundant, but it was definitely someone other than Elliott Smith singing it.

It really was cool! I agree about Little Creatures, but in this context, "New Feeling" sounded (and certainly seemed) as fresh, quirky and vaguely unsettling as it did when I first heard it. It definitely pushed all my pleasure buttons -- right there in the frozen foods section.

Well, not all my pleasure buttons, I guess. I didn't get asked to leave the store or anything.

I heard "Sense of Purpose" by The Sound in a Starbucks in Sarasota, FL a few weeks ago. Blew my mind. Probably the most obscure song I've heard in a public place.

This past Saturday, I was in a Saks Fifth Ave in an outlet mall in St. Augustine and heard not one, but two Blondie songs--"Atomic" and "Sunday Girl."

I'd like to know who was able to get the Sound on a Starbucks playlist. Kudos to them.

I asked the girl at the counter where the music was coming from, and she said it was a Starbucks playlist, and there are several to choose from.
