CD Storage Question
March 11, 2006 10:42PM
While looking for my copy of the Modern Lovers cd (still can't find it), I have decided it's time to do something about my storage problem. I got a buddy who lives by those Case Logic booklet thingys and swears they won't do damage, which would be cool, because the jewel cases are becoming a pain at this point. It's not that I think he's lying, it's just that, well, I take that back, I do think he's lying....Anybody got any feedback? I'm assuming people have some pretty large collections here, so how does everybody store their cd's/cdr's?

Cram those babies into your hard drive and take the husks to your favorite used record store.

First off, I had my dad build me a dowl and oak system floor to ceiling. Then, I had to buy boxes, and bags unlimited ( a company I have mixed feelings about) now sells a product that will fit both the jewel case art, and the front booklet, and the cd in a two sided plastic resealable sleave. without having to bend anything. I have a paranoid worry about the plastisizers in the soft plastic bags, causing health problems to my cd's , or me. I want virgin Japanese Mylar!

I don't know, I try to limit myself, but the resale value of cd's around here is nil, and I can only give so many away. plus it is important that I have everything that might matter at some point.

I've been moving my CDs out of jewel cases and into the DiscSox CD Pro, which holds up to two discs, along with the booklet and the J-card. I really like the ease that you can slide out the disc and the booklet and the amount of space you can save is amazing. I'm a DJ and it's so much easier to carry 20 CDs in DiscSox sleeves then it in jewel cases.

You can purchase them at: [mmdesign.com]

They also have cases and cabinets, including one that holds over 2000 CDs. I will be getting one of the Can-Am media cabinets when all my discs are in sleeves. But since I'm slowly converting to the sleeves, I've been creating CD holders by bending crap vinyl records in the oven. It's recycling and cheap sort-term solution.

Very soon I'll also be databasing my complete collection via this amazingly nifty Mac-only program that utilizes barcode scanner technology: [www.delicious-monster.com]
