r.i.p. Pat Fear (White Flag)

"One of the more ubiquitous faces from California's '80s punk scene will no longer be seen at the area's shows. William "Bill" Bartell, who performed as Pat Fear with the influential group White Flag, has died at the age of 52. According to the Press Enterprise, Bartell was found dead in his Moreno Valley, California, home on September 24, from what the county coroner's office has ruled as natural causes."

I helped a friend make a short film around 1990, even briefly appearing in it along with Ron Jeremy (who kept his clothes on), my mom (as a clown), and Bill Bartell, who played a cop. He had his own uniform. I was told that he had a thing about cops. Don't remember what his music was like. TP band Chemical People did the soundtrack.

Well, this passing certainly triggered a strange trip down memory lane. Is this what most people's youthhood is like?

Didn't Chemical People use porn actresses as cover models for their first two or three albums? Not too surprising, then, that they'd provide the soundtrack for a film that involved Ron Jeremy.

And I can't speak for anyone else, but ummm, no, my "youthhood" didn't include any experiences involving any porn star. (I did once see a flick that included a woman I had worked with -- in an, ummm, active role -- but the company we both worked for had nothing to do with porn.)

A girlfriend of mine had done a couple bit parts in regular movies (crowd scenes, etc.), and when she got the chance to do it again, she encouraged me to come with her and be in the film too. I declined, though. From what she'd told me, a day of that work involves a lot more waiting than acting ... and I would've had to take a day off from my regular job to do it. No thanks.
