Thanks for Nothing, Toronto!!

Last night OMD played in what was described as a "sweltering" venue in Toronto, leading to drummer Malcolm Holmes suffering a severe case of heat exhaustion - so severe that the band has called off the rest of their tour to give Malcolm a chance to recover - including the gig in Chicago next week where I was FINALLY going to get to see them.

So thanks for that, Toronto. Turn on the fucking air conditioning next time, why don't you?

Holmes had a heart attack back in 2004, so cheers to the band for making his health a top priority. Andy McCluskey says he will likely be fine, but they're not taking any chances.

There was a nice piece on NPR this morning about them. They sound like really cool guys.

i reckon chicago knows all about the heat. pass the plate, so as we can pony up a few rounds of draft beer for the band.

OMD have played coy as to whether they will continue following this current album/tour, and that was before Malcolm's medical crisis, so the band could have graced a stage for the last time in Toronto. Blowing up the drummer is only a valid option for Spinal Tap.

Update on Malcolm Holmes - seems he actually DIED on stage in Toronto and was resuscitated. Which is somewhat more serious than heat exhaustion, but he's doing okay now.
