McCartney at Fenway...who was there

McCartney at Fenway...who was there

At 71 the "lad" put on a hell of a show. At 46, it was the first time I was able to afford the "pilgrimage" . Also was the first time I was ever at Fenway for anything but a Red Sox game. Definitely added to the surrealism of the experience. Great night.

My wife and 7-year-old daughter are making the pilgrimage up to Seattle to see him next week. Glad to hear it's worth the king's ransom she had to pay for the tix.

I saw him three years ago in Denver. My wife & I covered the tickets for four pilgrims -- ourselves and my parents. It was a marvelous show, indeed. More than three hours, with no intermission and no opening act. And an embarrassment of riches to include in the set! We spent half the drive home talking about the songs that Paul & his band could've played.

It was my mom's first rock concert, and she had a great time. (To the best of her knowledge, it also was the first time she smelled pot.)

I may as well share my Paul McCartney concert experience story. In June or July of 1989 I went with four friends to see him at Veteran's stadium in Philadelphia. We got fairly drunk before the show and one of my buddies took some acid he scored in the parking lot.

We met another friend there and our six seats were in seperate blocks of 2 and 4 seats. My buddy who drove down and myself took the two seats together because they gave a slightly better view of the stage, and after all, we were the guys who stood in line to get the tickets.

Paul and his band played a long show, and I really enjoyed it. The stranger to my right shared some marijuana with my buddy next to me and I, and my other friend who took the acid was a few rows back screaming, "JUNIORS' FARM!" like a maniac for what seemed like a very long time. Paul never played Junior's Farm, but that's o.k., my acid drenched pal didn't recall the show.

The ride home was fun. There was construction on the PA. Turnpike Northbound and the lanes in the construction zone were very narrow, it was dark, and very foggy. My high buddy driving told the rest of us to be quiet so he could concentrate on driving. Being a 19 year old drunken, high idiot, I began doing my Fat Albert imitation to make him laugh. Laugh he did, and it's a wonder we didn't crash.

Good times.
