Another filmic RIP

James Gandolfini.

I think he did a fantastic job as Tony Soprano, but in the few other roles I've seen him, I didn't much care for him. He reminds me of Carroll O'Connor (Archie Bunker) in that he played one character fantastically, but I didn't give a darn for anything else by the man.

Maybe they just never had better writing than they did in The Sopranos and All In The Family, and that's why they are their best known roles.

I was just marvelling over him recently. If you get the chance, check out Killing Them Softly. Its not the best movie in the world, but its is alright. Its worth watching for Gandolphini's contribution as a low-life hitman. Its a small role but it is so well written and executed.
He also had a decent but even smaller appearance in Zero Dark Thirty. And when I say smaller, I don't mean his body size. He seems to have added some weight over the last year (to an already robust form,) probably contributing to his death.
I honestly haven't watched the Sopranos (I've never had HBO, Showtime, etc) but every movie he was in, he brought something to. I have no emotional attachment to these celeb deaths, but I had seen him in 2 movies very recently and had been thinking about how much he brought to his roles.

Didn't see that coming. I thought he was too tough to die and would've scared the grim reaper away or at least bashed his head in a la The Sopranos.

Damn it all to hell.
