Rock-n-Roll Notebook

What did you guys' notebooks look like in high school? At my school, we would usually write our favorite bands on our notebooks, and I remember one talented logo writer made a special effort to get the exact graphic style of every band name written. For instance, in The Doors, he made sure the OOs were pills. Just wondering what bands, if any, you wrote on your notebooks. I wrote Pink Floyd, the Doors, Hendrix and Zeppelin before I discovered the cool, underground musical rivers that would later become TP.

I probably had Floyd, Zeppelin, and the Doors on mine too. I can also remember doing the stylized AC/DC with the lightning bolt in the middle and trying to do the block letters from the Police's first album. And then I also remember writing OMD on my notebook later that same (freshman) year, which probably looked pretty silly next to the lightning bolt AC/DC....

I honestly can't remember. Probably Rush and Yes. I didn't start listening to TP-type stuff until I was in college.

Hmm...Probably the DKs logo, the Black Flag bars, the anarchy 'A'. Not necessarily my fave bands, but the best/most easily graffitied logos, e.g.: I knew little about the band Wasted Youth, but they had a cool logo I remember writing on my desk (desks too, not just notebooks). Oh, and Bowie lyrics, and "Eno Is God" - left that on my desk for whoever sat in the next class to contemplate.

It never occurred to me that the Os in The Doors' logo were meant to look pharmaceutical!

In my case, probably Kiss, Aerosmith and, later, Van Halen. The newer, cooler bands I heard as a senior didn't have logos, which probably is why I stopped drawing logos on my notebooks around that time. (Has a study been done on the correlation between a band having a logo and their overall coolness? Probably not.)

About the only logo'ed band I got into, during that time, was Rush. But I couldn't see myself drawing a rear view of a naked dude facing a big red star inside a circle on my notebooks. High school is tough enough as it is.

Once I got the 2 Tone guy down, I moved on to this:

i was a big lynyrd skynyrd fan so i drew a confederate flag on my spiral notebook.....until i found heavy metal and wrote iron maiden on everything..

This is right up my alley. I liked to draw, and my desk was my canvas. I would do the Jam logo (with the bar under the M from their first couple of albums), the Skids with the two "S" written with three angled straight lines, the Madness/English Beat figure provided by Jermoe, etc. I would also make up plenty of others if the bands did not have cool logos that I was aware of.

I had made up a cool one for Squeeze, where the little tail on the Q underlines the remaining letters, the bottom of the first E crosses that line and underlines every letter after it, and so on with all remaining letters until the final E. It looked real cool and I should have copyrighted it and made millions.

This was at the height of my TP fandom, so I only drew logos for the really cool bands no one else had heard of !
