74 years old. . .

"Ray Manzarek, keyboardist and founding member of The Doors, passed away today at 12:31PM PT at the RoMed Clinic in Rosenheim, Germany after a lengthy battle with bile duct cancer. He was 74. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his wife Dorothy Manzarek, and his brothers Rick and James Manczarek."

Extraordinarily talented keyboardist. Gave the Doors some jazz flares here and there, and did another great job with the band X. I can't believe it.

Absolutely. Don't like the Doors, but X was so lucky to have him behind the boards. Those are some damn near perfect albums.

You know you're a TP'er if ...

You hear the name "Ray Manzarek" and think of X before you think of The Doors.

Rest in peace, Ray. Thanks for producing four great albums that make up for that band you were with in the Sixties.

Whoa. That was close. The *second* thing that popped into my mind was …

… Kyle McLaughlin in The Doors movie.

Manzarek led an interesting life. Even if you're obliged to be the keyboard player, getting to be in The Doors seems much, much cooler than getting to be in many of the bands from that whole era ... or any era.

RIP

I thought of "Bedbugs and Ballyhoo."

What's that faint stirring I hear? Is the Standells thread coming to life again?

No, that's my foot stomping down the rising Standells/Munster thread to leave much room, respect and recollection of Ray Manzarek's awesome legacy. Lizard king jacket and snake boots included.

another thing i thought thatr was interesting about manzarek is that a concert or two morrison was too drugged up to be on stage, he took the vocals and while he dosent have the persona of morrison he wasnt half bad.

manzarek is iconoclastic.
aside from performing in the doors and producing many (say, more than twenty) new wave/punk classics; maybe ray never knew he was in a goth band. he always sports such a beautiful smile.

That explains, in part, how he made it to 74.

i thought Iggy was in a band (Nite City) with Manzarek, but their discography doesn't list him as a member....
