I think it's pretty great - 10, no, 20 times better than
The Weirdness. There's no way the band can recapture the lightning in a bottle that was
Raw Power, of course, but the new one comes closer to getting back in that spirit than any of the record's gazillion imitators. "Burn," the first single, is an instant classic in that regard. Plus it's got some tender moments as well, including "The Departed," a tribute to Ron Asheton.
It's got the occasional lyrical failure - "DDs," (double Ds, in other words) is particularly embarrassing in that regard. But it wouldn't be Iggy Pop without at least a song or two to make you cringe.
Overall - it's funny, loud and borderline insane , and rocks ass. Exactly what I want a Stooges album to be.
