Lyrical mistakes

They sometimes happen. Take Neil Young. I am in awe of this Canadian storm of guitar fury's body of work. It will be forever indelible in rock. However, in the song Helpless, he mentions "Big birds flying across the sky / Throwing shadows over our eyes." This, however, makes me think of Sesame Street's Big Bird and ruins the song's effect on me. He could've sang Sea birds flying across the sky or Grey birds flying across the sky which would've been better. Hey, it's not that I'm a friggin lyrical expert, but he underestimated the Sesame Street demographic.

I know how you feel, Hoip. I feel the same way about Prince and his body of work over the years, which includes some lyrics that are like big potholes in an otherwise smooth road.

Might not know it now

If I gave you diamonds and pearls
Would you be a happy boy or girl?

Holy jeez, what was he thinking?

That's part of the problem when your records are "produced, arranged, composed and performed by" only yourself. Even the best songwriter needs a good editor once in a while.

Yes, so true. And why did David Bowie sing "Time my change me, but I can't chase time"? Or trace time? It's hard to tell, so I always rewrite it in my head to the perfect "Time may change me, but I can't change time."

Ahhh, yes ... That, from the same man who wrote & sang, "Time takes a cigarette, puts it in your mouth," "Time keeps flexing like a whore" and "Time will crawl, till the twenty-first century lose."

Not to mention his urgent concerns about modern love getting him to the church on time ... because, after all, he had just five years left to die in.

Seems our boy David has had a strange relationship with time, he did.

Listening to the Fall's "Cowboy George," it consistently sounds to me like Mark E. is chanting "two broken buttholes" at the end. . .

I cringe at the line "that slit-eyed lady knocked me off my feet" in the song Every Picture Sells A Jelly Donut. So un-PC....tut tut.
