tame impala track by track 'Innerspeaker' review exclusive!

track 1- announces a band into sound first. the beatles second. marvelous.
track 2- the band turns up the distortion pedals to near BLACK SABBATH levels and runs it though a new wave grinder to achieve a new watershed beatles sound not heard since XTC.
track 3- another ripping track outta the gate; i place this tunes vibe in the early 70's (10CCish/wings) with late eighties manchester shuffle...very nice but WAAAAAAAY TOO LONG
track 4- best track so far. the band fully captures that timeless vintage garage sound. silly me, i didn't know think there were bands like this around anymore.
track 5 Make Up Your Mind- Echoey Vocals and swirling keyboards...nice, thin and near redundant

track 6- is simply stunning. it might as well be the WHO in swingin LondOn 2012. the song is absolutely breathtaking.
track 7- the band continues to not only defy all my expectations but also surpass them... but wait, a fragmentary TELEVISION/ LOVE TRACTOR (at best) post punk jangle almost building to something. the song is way too long. say it ain't so, is it all downhill from here?
track 8-instantly possesses a more immediate sound. and it serves the band well, if they could only keep the songs under three minutes...
track 9-the bands enthusiasm is now contagious, oh but wait; there really is no track 9, the band were just fucking around in the studio.
track 10-wtf, these guys are twenty something hippies!
track 11- ten seconds worth of synth noodling...
track 12 (side 2?)- this tune starts with (of all things!) a strong LED ZEPPELIN immigrant song backone backbeat but then halfway through the same song , altogether seamlessly merges an apocalyptic stone roses climb. whew!
it seems the band can find a groove anywhere and anytime. at the three quarter mark of the tune, a pleasant haunted organ sound takes hold of the proceedings to remind me of PROCOL HARUM. what next?!
track 13- if the WHO were twenty (or thirty/forty) something and grew up listening to My Bloody Valentine they might sound like this. i'm in love but nothing is sacred anymore.

an aboslutely smashing set of songs that somehow keeps the summer of love alive.

oh, that was their 2010 album?

tame impala 'Lonerism'

track 1-gotta be above- incredible first track, the band out dbanjo dbanjos' riddims and breathes some fresh air into elder beatle statesmen.
track 2-'endors toi' a warm fresh plunge into the waters of...Emerson Lake and Palmer? the tune is absolutely wonderful, as satisfying as a warm bath. i feel sixteen again.
track 3-Apocalypse Dream-i think the band has located a sonic niche somewhere between the BEATLES and SPARKS that suits both the band and general listeners. while that may seem like an understatement its really no small acheivement. in fact, its a great one.
track 4-SKIP; worst track in the history of the band. proof, we suffer for art.
track 5-music to walk home by-Is the sound not walking but of a band RUNNING OUT OF IDEAS.
track 6=Why Won't They Talk to Me?" the band surges back with warm pulsations that invite listeners back inside the bands wide world of creation. this is where the band belongs, playing it simple, melodic and irresisably catchy.
track 7 -Feels Like We Only Go Backwards- while i can appreciate the frustration of it all, the irony is, it's one giant step backward for the band.
track 8- 'Elephant' is a drag. a boring fragmented by the numbers attempt at glam rock
track 9=She Just Won't Believe Me-another backward running carosel shanty. at one minute eight seconds it is ultimately, too long.
track 10-it seems the carosel operator has somehow regained the operational controls just in the nick of time to apply a bit of forward pressure that somehow sends the band back but into wobbly organ drenched orbit where they belong.
track 11-Sun's Coming Up"-a moving and touching piano ditty for those within walking distance home from the pub. the song contains some neat melodic reverb feedback to greet dawn patrol surfers. magnificent.
track 12-Led Zeppelin=proof that one or possibly both of these bands are nothing more than a fragmented riff.
track 114. "Beverly Laurel =pleasant lounge space dance pop for the masses.

it was a wonderful listening experience for me. i beleive tame impala may someday fully create a masterpiece album.

Nicw work mate. Anytime anyone professes a liking for Tame Impala, I suggest they check out Pond, who share three members (although on different instruments). I rate Beard, Wives, Denim over Lonerism for what it's worth.

Fantastic Explosion of Time-no matter how loud, energenic or fast the guitars, the vox are blatant bowie. tame impala 1 POND nill
When It Explodes- the song opens with loud strummed guitars reminescent of the early eighties postcard bands, or more currently an arctic monkeys 'SUCK IT & SEE' sound. an echoey vocalist ala steve kilbey/Richard davies (CARDINAL/MOLES) tries to bring some structure to the sound. wait, theres a bridge to cross...and after a pointilistic, slippery and jagged journey across, were left to look back at the reflections of MBV.
Elegant Design-weak attempt at merging the stone roses, rush and led zeppelin. i could be sleeping instead.
Sorry I Was Under the Sky- first the vocals were bowie, then kilbey, now lennon, all strung together with demo quality guitar playing. not the sorta thing that is gonna keep me awake much longer...
Sun and Sea and You-the fake prog mixed with too many cymbals sends me packing.

but it's a very healthy small faces/steve marriott psychedelic stomp (would you rather 'frampton comes alive'?) that catapults the band back into present orbit.

at their peak TAME IMPALA sound right at home on the upcoming imaginary 'MORNING OF THE EARTH II' soundrack album.
