I think I pronounced it "Inkses" for a while before I figured it out, which sounds like Smeagal telling you what medium calligraphers work in.

Never a huge fan, but "Don't Change" is still a truly great sounding single and in terms of bands that were actually on commercial radio in the 80s well they were a moment of relief from the overwhelming dreck.

My first ever underage pub rock gig. Set me back $4 and the 15 year old me thought they were awesome when they finished with Just Keep Walking. My sister was an aspirational rock writer and we ended up chatting to Andrew Farris afterwards. He was a good bloke.

I dug them in the 80s, less so later on. Thought they should've split when Hutchence died, though. Still, 35 years is a good run, and some of their singles ("What You Need," "Original Sin") hold up nicely.

My younger brother was a fan. I can't recall exactly why but he had the LISTEN LIKE THIEVES and other records on cassette, starting with KICK of course, in junior high and high school. Later for his birthdays and whatnot, I might find him an INXS CD-single for some b-sides. I always undervalued them, but I later got the two-CD compilation and there were some very strong songs there.

Listen Like Thieves was the high point for me. I owned it on cassette.

LOVED Shabooh Shoobah. I had the cassette, which I can't even remember how I acquired. Listen Like Thieves was even better, one of the first cd's I bought. Welcome to Wherever You Are had some really nice tunes as well. I still wonder at the possibilities if Terence Trent D'arby had actually joined the group.

D'Arby couldn't have been an easy personality to work with, but yeah, that combination had a lot of potential. I thought finding their new singer through a "reality" TV show was beyond the pale.

With all due respect to the artists included in Kay's post — take that as you will — I found it very creepy that a band would seek out a replacement for its singer on national TV, after that singer had committed suicide.
