Can I come along?

The "attention deficit" thread includes a couple of comments from people who went to see bands/artists whose music they didn't like, on the grounds that they'd been told that you have to see said artist live, to really "get" their music.

Has anyone ever had the flip-side experience — been approached by someone who wanted to go to a particular show with you, even though they really knew nothing (or seemingly cared nothing) about the artist who'd be playing? How did the show turn out? Did the newbie enjoy it? Turn into a lifelong fan? Wonder what they'd been thinking in the first place? Or did they somehow blame you for the whole waste of their time?

When I saw the Dead Kennedys (with Brandon Cruz standing in for Biafra), a long-time friend of mine asked if she could go with me. She was just looking for something to do that night; punk rock never had been on her radar. (This was the same woman I've mentioned here who knew Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band as a movie with Peter Frampton and the BeeGees, but not as a Beatles album.) I told her sure, but made it clear that I'd take no responsibility if she didn't have a good time.

She enjoyed the evening. She thought it was pretty wild to see audience members actually get on stage with the band. Musically, though, she dug the opening acts more than the headliner. (East Bay Ray had a lot of problems with his guitar set-up that night, so the DKs' set dragged a lot.)

im a huge fan of matthew ryan and go to see him whenever he plays in nyc area. preety much every woman ive went out with at the time rea;;y enjoyed the shows. mostly i think they just thought it was cute to see me passionate about music of an artist who one could talk to before and after a show and not in a nerdy star trek convention way asking him about his linear notes / so far every woman has left the show with a deeper understanding of the music and lyrical content.

weird, I saw that show but took Bill Bixby with me......didn't like it

I bet Bill wouldn't have been too crazy about it either.
