I thought Detroit and SF were the weakest teams entering the playoffs. Shows what I know. Well, I think I wasn't too far off about Detroit. They beat an Athletics team that was playing out of their mind the last month of the season but couldn't sustain it in the playoffs. The Yankees went cold at a bad time and Detroit took advantage (though their starting pitching in that series had a lot to do with NY being cold).
SF was on an unbelievable high entering the series. After they came back in the two previous series, I just had a feeling they were going to roll over the Tigers. In games 1 and 2, every break seemd to go their way. They impressed me more than any team since...well, the 2010 Giants team that won it all. They are the epitome of "team"...a bunch of grinders that get by on timely hitting and great pitching and defense. I didn't realize how athletic they were until I started watching them every night during the playoffs. A different guy stepped up every night and contributed. Really hard not to admire a group like that.
