They're a sight to behold. One got in our sunroom last month and the kids were ecstatic (and a little freaked out).

I'd seen plenty of hummingbirds on the East coast, but in a little Rocky Mountain town I saw a "flock" of them above a garden hedge, flying up, hovering, and then diving.
Don't know what they were doing, but they looked like a line of kids at a waterslide. They even cried "wheeeee!" on their way down.

Also, "hummingbirds" is my second least favourite song on A GHOST IS BORN.

I used to see a lot of them in my "little Rocky Mountain town." I've seen a couple here in the Pacific Northwest, but not in nearly the numbers that Colorado has to offer.

Hummingbirds can be seen every day in the yards around my house. A pair nest in a flowering vine on my north side fence. They're fascinating to watch.

This summer a whole family nested temporarily in a patio light fixture at my sister's in-laws' house. A room full of people were in thrall for 15 minutes or so while the parents alternated going out and coming back with food to feed the babies. Surprisingly compelling viewing.

i was near seeing double when i began this thread, i must have started it for reasons of posterity. in any event, earlier that day, my friend and i were building a porch/deck/entrance off the front of my house when the little feller (the bird, not my friend) showed up. my carpenter friend mistook it for a bee and went chasing it with his hammer, i damned near took one to the noggin trying to get him to stop swingin and just take a look. stop & look he did, was amazed - so we drank a toast, and all work stopped for the rest of the day. alas, many toasts followed waiting on that bird or more like him to show up but was not meant to be. now, looking back over the chain of events the whole thing kind of reminds me of that vic chesnutt song 'rabbit box' where vic sums up 'we all three escaped safely'

at this point in my life, i dont mind happy endings.
