By the way, James, why is this so important? (Not that it isn't enjoyable.)
Re: numbers game
February 10, 2006 12:36AM
why was this urgent or important? (i can't remember)

Because I'm a dork?

no, because for the next big party I'm going to burn the best assortment in numerical order I can come up with, and slip it on the stereo around midnight or so, and wait til someone goes WTF. They are used to weird mixes from me, but not themes, so it's just a game I guess.

Plus I've worked on it for years, and had to start over because I cleaned up a lot of junk around the house, thinking I no longer needed it.

My other big game mix I've worked on and lost all my notes for is one where there are successive covers. I used to have lists like 10 long and then search for the missing links to make a full 70 minutes. You have to go from older artists that cover young guys to mid level artists on tribute albums, to hopefully some wierd band covering the mid level artist, then get it back. I haven't decided if going into reverse is acceptable. I'll try to work up a good long one as an example.

Merle Haggard does Townes Van Zandt, Buck Owens does Merle Haggard, Beatles do Buck owens, Damned do Beatles, Mudhoney do Damned, Jimmie Dale Gilmore does Mudhoney, If Townes Van Zandt did Jimmie Dale Gilmore, (I can't remember who wrote white frieght liner blues) then I've come full circle. That one got kind of country and incestuous, but it's just an example. It wastes entire afternoons pulling out albums and cds and 7 inch b-sides following trails. All to impress my friends. None of it matters if it isn't listenable though. correction, none of it matters.

back to me being a dork (but my collection is huge)

Actually, James, that's a pretty cool game. I'm sure anyone who's tried to put together a theme-based mix can appreciate that. A tip of the hat to ya!

Is "96 Tears" listed. It could be on Breno's list but I got blurred vision trying to read it.
