Just went back and read it now to see how it could be better than London Calling and I'm finding it hard to believe. Anybody heard 'em?

The Goodies? Holy shit! Where did you track that down? And wherever it is, do the have the Two Ronnies?

Scanned the list about five times now and unless it's hidden somewhere, LOVELESS by My Bloody Valentine is missing. (If they use the excuse that Shields is a yank by birth, okay, whatever. Still seems a huge oversight to me.)

And as much as I like Blur and Pulp, two albums apiece? And two by Suede???? Two Coldplays to one Bunnymen? Two Libertines and one Costello?

I did notice that VGPS was on the list. To me it is the Pet Sounds of the '00s (nearly-forgotten album of the '60s being praised to the skies by Rock Snob types as a masterpiece). The thing that surprised me is that there's nothing by the White Stripes on the list.

My favorite Who album is the Who Sell Out, which I feel is underrated (the Who are from the UK, right, I just want to make sure, I don't want to screw up again)

Yeah, I love Arctic Monkeys LP. It's too high obviously but just because it's THE album right now. Album makes me wanna get up and move whenever I hear it. Actually I think there have been 2 great albums already in '06, that one and the Strokes - and guess what, the Pitchfork reviews of both were way off-target......I get better reviews in Rolling Stone nowadays. Sad.......Arctic Monkeys were on my top singles of '05 list when we had that thread back in December. Most internet junkies know them from the demos which have been floating around for 10 months, plus an intro release (4 or 5 song EP) on Domino.

What I've heard of the Monkeys I've liked, but haven't spent a whole lot of time with them yet. I'm with Mats, though, on the new Strokes album - it's a good one. I'm also loving the new Cat Power disc quite a bit. Think this is the first time I can ever remember two January releases with the potential of being on the end of the year list. Hope that's a good sign for the rest of the year.

Upon further inspection, where the #@$% are Van Morrison and Squeezing Out Sparks?!!? Hmmmmmmm.....

I'll fight to the death that those 2 Libertines records should not only be on there, they should be higher. Great, great band.......The glaring omission for me is the Only Ones. Apparently, I'm the only one (ha!) who loves them any more.....Exile On Main Street is waaaaay too low. That's in my top 10 ever. Deliciously weird (and incorrect !) having "Definitely Maybe" above any Beatles LP, even though "Definitely Maybe" is my favorite 90s album (it's better dressed than Nevermind, goes better with beer than Slanted & Enchanted).....Stone Roses lose something in translation with me, I can't quite get 'em. I like the record, but it's a "she's cute I'd like to take her to a movie" feeling rather than a "if I set myself on fire she'll notice me" feeling.

Arctic Monkeys aren't bad (Brit rock/hard pop, and the LP is getting better every listen), but they will unlikely be on that same list a few years from now while Beatles and Clash will always be (and I don't even listen to the Beatles). I really like Up the Bracket but feel the same about it (Antony, will you last?).
You gotta admit we'd never see a list this good on this side of the pond. In American music rags, most of a list is stuff I can't tolerate. This has a lot of tolerable-to-excellent choices.

Who makes up these lists, and have they heard of oh, say Richard Thompson, Traffic,The Kinks, The Move, Pink Floyd,King Crimson?

These lists come out all the time, and I always feel The Who are under represented.
ONE album in the top 100, and it's 'My Generation'? Usually 'Who's Next' slips in there as the lone Who CD in the polls.
'Quadrophenia' is one of my favorite albums of all time, and it never makes the cut in any of these polls.

The Who were such a great band, and you can hear their sound in so many bands today. I know it doesn't make sense to say that they're under appreciated, but in some ways I feel they are.

Just my two cents...

Is this list similar in method to the one MOJO did a a few years ago, where they weren't picking the best albums, but the ones that "represented" British rock? Revolver was first on that one. XTC was left off the list for being "too stereotypically" British. England's never appreciated them that much.

How the hell can a band be too "stereotypically British" to represent British rock? WTF does that mean anyway? I'm sure Blur, Oasis and Pulp were all over that list and they seem more "British" than XTC ever has.

The British music press is a strange, strange place.
