If I Knew This Before, I Forgot It

If I Knew This Before, I Forgot It

Midge Ure's actual first name is James, and Midge is just "Jim" pronounced backwards. I'm sure I must've already known that, but I sure don't remember ever having read it anywhere before seeing it just now in the liner notes of an album I've had for years.

This was surely the single most consequential post of our time. Let us now return to our petty concerns.

Just yesterday I read that Ed Cobb of The Four Preps ("26 miles across the sea/Santa Catalina is is a-waitin' for me") was the improbable author of "Tainted Love" - a direct line (via Gloria Jones) from white-bread '50s vocal groups to AIDS-era '80s synth wave. Who'd a-thunk it? I must have read that at some point, but forgot it.

Cobb wrote songs for the Standells, and bam! just like that, we're back to the Munsters thread.

I knew Ure's first name was James (although I'd forgotten it), but I'd never heard how he'd gotten his nickname. But now I'll remember it. Thanks, Reno! Can never have enough TP trivia!

BTW, my wife loved the anagram about The Cars.
