this news touches me.
i know i will never forget gil. i saw his performance on SNL. it affected me. so much so that when i asked my grampa (he worked for eastern airlines for thirty five years and traveled everywhere), 'what is your favourite country' and he'd say, 'south africa' of course, i would followith (KINGS OF LEON RULE!) 'but they have slavery there' that's when grandad threw me out.

happy ending though, grandad lived to ninety four. he died with a gallon sized bottle of viagra and a young black heathcare worker by his side.

Man, I just started getting in to him. That really sucks. I seem to recall he had a somewhat troubled life - I hope he's at rest now.

STEVE, I had the exact same experience with the SNL show. I was maybe 7 and walking around singing, "What's the word?/Johannesburg" all over the place and it moved me to study South Africa and Apartheid. Heron was amazing. I was listening to "We Almost Lost Detroit" a couple of days ago and wondered what he was going to do next. Damn.
