Anybody familiar with Fontaine Brown? I've seen his name as co-writer on some Dave Alvin and Peter Case LPs, which is what kept him in the back of my mind. He was in a band called Southwind with Moon Martin in the 70s, but I figured they have to be easygoing 70s folk/country rock, so I've never indulged. He also had a band called Fast Fontaine at the turn of the 80s - never heard them, either.
Turns out he has a solo record called
Tales From the Fenceline. What induced me to take a chance on this was the band assembled for the project: Don Dixon, Mitch Easter, Peter Holsapple, plus Kelley Ryan of Astropuppees on harmonies and Dixon associate Jim Brock on drums. That's gotta be good, right?
We'll find out. I'm spinning it now.
