References in tribute

Paganizer's thread about Clash lyrics reminded me of something else.

In the song "Preacher's Daughter," from the Refreshments album The Bottle and Fresh Horses, Roger Clyne sings about troubles with the law. He sings, "Sheriff don't like it," with the same inflection as the line in "Rock the Casbah."

What other songs pay tribute to a favorite classic in such a way? (I know there must be plenty of them.)

Slade and Cheap Trick both quoted the Daytripper riff in songs. Fountains of Wayne did Don't Feel the Reaper as a coda.

lyrically, Hootie and Blowfish borrowed a Dylan line (and paid dearly for it). lots of people (like Bolan) have used Chuck Berry's "meanwhile i'm still waiting" line from Little Queenie

Young MC "Bust A Move": "But like Mick Jagger said, I can't get no satisfaction"

The Gaslight Anthem's been known to cop a line or two from a variety of sources, including everyone from Richard Linklater ("Wooderson") to Springsteen and Counting Crows (?!?) in the same song ("High Lonesome"). They're a little more explicit with "I'da Called You Woody, Joe":

The Flaming Stars titled a tune "You Don't Always Want What You Get."

In the song "Volcano Girls," Veruca Salt pays tribute both to its own earlier hit single "Seether" and the Beatles' "Glass Onion":

These guys cut and paste the Shot By Both Sides riff directly into the end part of this (great) song.

Bunnygrunt has a song called "More Loves than Stupids", in tribute to the first Psychedelic Furs album, referencing the fact that even though the album would seem to contain a record number of uses of the word "stupid", the word "love" still turns up more often. (Though that's largely due to "We Love You" so it really doesn't seem like that should count.)
