Looks like I'm going to have to hope they come back through Atlanta, unfortunately. My wife agreed to go see Burn the Floor with a friend that night, and it's a lot harder to arrange a babysitter on a Tuesday than I'd thought previously...

The only thing that makes me feel a little better is that my wife has to sit through Burn the Floor.

Yeah, they're playing SXSW a few times this week - I'm hoping to catch 'em at least once.

They didn't disappoint. Holy crap, what a show.

I'm seeing them in St. Louis in about a month at some venue I'd never heard of before but seems to be booking a ton of great bands, so that's cool - even though a friend of mine who's an artist in town tells me the venue is part of an art center that seems to be a front for a church that has decided its mission is to evangelize the arts community and rents studio space to artists and then slowly starts requiring them to attend church events in exchange for the low rent they charge for studios.

Which is all neither here nor there for anyone just going to a concert, though it is kind of odd that an evangelical church is booking people like Joy Formidable, Destroyer and Cold Cave - not that any of them are particularly sinful or anything, but it's a far cry from what the Baptists of my youth ever would've attempted.

The concert space is in an abandoned nunnery, so that'll be interesting.

I saw a couple of acts (Mark Eitzel and TSOOL) in a church fellowship hall yesterday - interesting venue with pretty darn good sound. Eitzel cursed up a storm, of course. TSOOL did an acoustic show with a bunch of material they don't usually play live.

A good friend of mine saw a label showcase at the local presbyterian church a couple of days ago and said it was the best concert experience she's had in a long time. Comfortable pews, friendly volunteers, good sound, baked good courtesy of the church ladies.
