This is a joke - right?

Sadly, no. Well, maybe it's Bob's idea of a joke on all of us. From today's Pitchfork:

Bob Dylan to Become Satellite Radio DJ
Kati Llewellyn reports:
The times, they are a-changin'. XM Satellite Radio announced today that Bob Dylan has signed on to become their latest DJ. Come March, the living legend will host a weekly show on XM's Deep Tracks channel. In addition to a hand-picked playlist by the master himself, the hour-long program will feature commentary on music and other topics, interviews with special guests, and on-air replies to e-mail from XM subscribers.

"Songs and music have always inspired me," Dylan said in a press release. "A lot of my own songs have been played on the radio, but this is the first time I've ever been on the other side of the mic. It'll be as exciting for me as it is for XM."

Dylan joins a roster of DJs that already includes Snoop Dogg and Ellen DeGeneres. We'll just let that sink in for a second.

How much money is XM paying Dylan to do this? The answer, my friend, is bl-- ah, you know the rest.

i had xm when tom petty et all were "djs".
not really, they talked a little between some songs but nothing special.
sirius on the other hand has david johansen's show which has some of the most eclectic music i have heard along with philosophical rants ( sri ramma-lamma-ding-dong),etc.
Handsome Dick has a show too that plays great rock d'garage and turned me on to a whole lotta gooduns!

Imagine being interviewed by him.

The famously reclusive 64-year-old performer said in a statement this week that "a lot of my own songs have been played on the radio, but this is the first time I've ever been on the other side of the mike".
Lee Abrams, XM's chief creative officer, told the NYT he had been courting Dylan for such a program for a year and a half, and that the program would offer fans a close connection to the rock legend. "We want to make it as comfortable for him as possible," Abrams said, adding that the show would emanate from "a combination of home and hotel rooms and buses. He'll really be in his element."

I think this is the only time in my life where I can honestly and safely predict that I'll prefer Little Steven's work (i.e. radio show) to Bob Dylan's (i.e. radio show).
