found a crate of records today...

Actually, it was a stack of records in a sealed box that must have been in the basement for 20 years:

The Cure- The Walk ep
Golden Palominos- Visions of Excess
XMal Deautschland- Fetisch
Ultravox- Lament
Ultravox- Monument the Soundtrack
Teardrop Explodes- Wilder
Teardrop Explodes- Kilimanjaro
The Church- Remote Luxury
Mission UK- God's Own Medicine
Depeche Mode- Construction Time Again
Depeche Mode- It's Called a Heart 12"
Depeche Mode- See You 12"
Lene Lovich- Stateless
Dead Can Dance- Spleen and Ideal
Cabaret Voltaire- The Covenant, The Sword and the Arm of the Lord
Cabaret Voltaire- Drinking Gasoline
Cabaret Voltaire- The Drain Train ep
Cabaret Voltaire- Micro-phonies
Christian Death- Atrocities
Echo and the Bunnymen- The Killing Moon ep
P.I.L.- Live in Tokyo
P.I.L.- Commercial Zone
P.I.L.- Flowers of romance
Cocteau Twins- Aikea-Guinea ep
Cocteau Twins- Peppermint Pig ep
Joy Division- Closer
The Glove- Blue Sunshine
New Order- Everything's Gone Green ep

Feels like I hit the lottery. I remember all these records like it was yesterday. Over the past couple decades I've moved into cd's of course, and I have most of these on cd (well, not Christian Death...yuck). But finding this stack this morning and spending the day listening to them was a special thing. The songs sound like they did when I was a kid. Feels like I'm spending the day with an old friend. I'll file them with the rest of the hundreds of records I'll never get rid of, but rarely listen to. Damn CD's...they ruined everything.

I envy your experience. I need to get a working turntable so I can have the same kind of nostalgia trip. The damage caused by CDs was relatively small. In the digital age, our children will grow up in a world without record stores.

p.s. That Remote Luxury record is one of the most atmospheric records ever. I will go put that on and light some candles right now.

It feels like the Comsat Angels should be somewhere on that list of records.

If I still had Joy Division's Closer on vinyl, Twenty Four Hours would be disturbing the neighbors as I type this.

I have always loved how dense that song sounds - there's so much going on it before it even kicks in......and then, well, it really KICKS in.

"Twenty Four Hours" has always been my favorite JD song. Haunting indeed.

Some great stuff in that box, kwk. Makes me want to go listen to The Flowers of Romance right now....

The Peel Sessions II has a great version of 24H - made me realize how thrilling they must have sounded live, on a good night.

I have a bunch of Joy Division on vinyl from the 80s including some live bootlegs. The best one, a picture disc called Komackino (not the 45) has a version of Heart and Soul in a MAJOR key. I suppose it's probably available on any number of re-released comps, but man, when I found that - man. Felt like the only one in the world to have found it. I also remember Ian proclaiming authoritatively "Come see The Atrocity Exhibition" as the song kicked in, as if it were Side 1 of Unleashed in the East. You could not hear that disc and think they were depressed/depressing. It was thrilling.

Hook's bass that launches into the chorus of Twenty Four Hours is monstrous. It's haunted me for almost 30 years. And this was just the "lost" records. There are a few Comsat Angels records that have been sitting on my shelves for decades. I still count "Eye of the Lens" among my favorite songs ever.
