What was I thinking??

Bands that you thought were the second coming for a very short period of time--and then you got over it pretty quickly.

For me: ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead. For about a month in 2001 I was convinced of their utter greatness. I look back at their entire catalogue now (and they have a new one coming out) and wonder, "What was I thinking"? Not a bad band, but not great either.

I'm sure there are many more. But the news of a new Trail of Dead album stirred up this thought.

I'd say Idlewild. There were a few years when I thought they were the second coming of something (maybe REM). And they still have 2-3 albums that are outstanding, but they fizzled quick. The last one was horrible.
Roddy Woomble's solo album was fantastic though, so I just don't get it.

Probably Pink Grease. Not in a "what was I thinking" way because I still rate their first EP quite highly, but their album was pretty craptacular and can't say that I know/care if they released anything else afterward.

When I was a teenager - The Alarm.

I went to 20 or 30 Allman Brothers concerts as a young man. Why? I have no clue.

I've already raved about their last one, Century of Self but the new one, Tao of Dead is a thing of prog greatness.
