New Radiohead Album

1. Is anyone interested in it?

2. If so, has anyone else tried to order it? Have you had as much trouble as I seem to be having ordering the fucking thing? Every payment method I've tried gets declined - PayPal, credit card, prepaid credit card, etc. etc.

No big deal. It comes out physically at the end of March and I can wait if their damn website refuses to accept my money.

1. Yes. My wife and I both love In Rainbows, so we're keen to hear what they come up with next.

2. Yes, with no difficulty. Visa accepted on first try. (I seem to recall the site saying it can't accept prepaid credit cards from outside the UK, but I may have misread that caveat.)

Yes. I've been clicking on the US all week. It seems to hate me.

Whatever. I'll wait until Monday and a guy at work will burn me a copy and it'll end up costing me zilch. Hurray for technology.

I have tried Safari and Firefox (I'm on a Mac). I have tried Visa, AmEx and Mastercard. I have tried PayPal. I have tried from a laptop and two different desktops. I have tried a prepaid card. I have tried it in a house. I have tried it with a mouse. I have tried it on a boat. I have tried it with a goat.

I am now comfortable in saying fuck Radiohead and their oh so clever release schemes. If you're going to pull this shit, make sure there are no bugs in your system. Otherwise, release the fucking thing like a normal band and not try to pretend your the fucking saviours of the future of music.

I think I sense frustration talking. I mean, we all know that if you speak ill of Radiohead it will alert the Kansas School Board.

Tested said payment methods on iTunes and Amazon to be sure they were actually working or if I had bigger issues. They worked fine, and I now own the Wild Nothings' version of "Cloudbusting," the new album by Hundred in the Hands and a used paperback novelization of Conquest of the Planet of the Apesby John Jakes.

Made sure I was selecting correct region

"We're sorry, but you payment did not go through." Yes, their fucking apology message misspells "your." I've come to know it rather well over the last week.

Fuck Radiohead. Just release your fucking albums and quit trying to be cute about it, you wanker fucks.

I'm at a loss. I must be doing something wrong, but I can't fathom what it would be. It's not like it appears to be a complicated process, and God knows I've never had trouble blowing money on the internet before. But I have never had a website single me out for special hatred before, but this one has. Everyone else seems to be "Gosh, I didn't even order it and it magically appeared on my iPod" but it steadfastly refuses to be purchased by me. So fuck it. It won't be.

The only thing I can figure is that I saw another guy mention somewhere that he had tried with his debit card six times and it got refused often enough that his bank suspended his card because they blocked transactions from some UK domains because of fraud and the multiple attempts to use it flagged it in their system, so he had to call his bank to get his card reactivated and figure out how to make the transaction.

So since one of my cards and my PayPal draw from the same bank account, I wonder if my bank has a similar set-up and that the other card I used also has the same restriction, and that Delvin is correct about pre-paid cards and fraud concerns there.

In that light, I suspect I probably just have the bad luck of having several forms of payment which refuse to authorize transactions with the UK domain the Radiohead site is using. Whatever. I'm definitely not going to call my bank like the other guy did to get their permission to buy a fucking Radiohead album. They're not that fucking special.

And if I'm frustrated or angry with the band/whoever is handling their website, it's because I've never had a payment source rejected while online shopping before, let along four different sources. And the fact that subsequent testing has revealed all four sources to be acceptable elsewhere on the web leads me to conclude that the issue is unique to their site. I don't know what that issue would be, but whatever. At the end of the day one should not need an IT degree or a doctorate in international finance just to be able to download an album.

So that's why I'm pissed at them. But I'll get over it as long as the album is good. Thanks again.

Online shopping is a pipeline with a chain of events, all of which have to work right.
Software>Hardware>Client sends Packet>ISP>Backbone>Server>Seller-Side Software>Packet sent to 3rd party (Paypal, etc.)>Back to Seller Software>
etc.

Looks like it wasn't being cleared by the 3rd party. There are several possible culprits at that level. (I've had it happen once and it was a Paypal glitch while interacting with a specific vendor's software.) I would have also suggested using a friends PayPal or credit card (and possibly paying them cash, depending how much you like them) as a workaround (other than the one we used, though if that's good enough for now, then cheers). But it narrowed down to your credit company refusing payment.

That said, their site doesn't seem to be getting a lot of complaints (a million served in less than one week?); which circles back to 3rd party credit account refusing to send secure packets to the band's vendor. The workaround to that would be to contact them (yr guys) and let them know they are glitching in a place where others aren't. (yeah, good luck with that phone call). Could be something else but those are the things I can think of from my limited slaving in that side of the industry.
