Lyrics that make you roll your eyes:

Lou Reed: "I used to look at women in the magazines /I know that it was sexist but I was in my teens" (from "Women," The Blue Mask) Lou has never looked at porn since he was a teen. Yeah. Uh huh. Me neither.

Bono: "This is a song Charles Manson stole from the Beatles. We're stealing it back." (introducing U2's cover of 'Helter Skelter')

Sting: "How can I save my little boy/ from Oppenheimer's deadly toy?" ("Russians"; actually that whole song is pretty cringe-worthy)

Whitney Houston "I believe that children are our future" - Oh yeah? I say they're NOT the future! Whatd'ya think of that, huh?!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey! The phone's ringing:

"Hello, Ed's Hedgerow Maintenance, Ed speaking....what's that lady...? Sounds like you got yerself a bustle...nah, don't be alarmed now. You know what it is? It's probably just a sprinkling for the Mayqueen...Yeah, that's right. Nuthin' to worry about...Sure, you're welcome. Goodbye" click (goes back to doing crossword puzzle)

The entirety of "Russians" causes involuntary eye-rolling, and nausea.

From "Jesus Take The Wheel": "So from now on, tonight". And not afterwards? I mean, I know the song is written just for the hook they created, but c'mon. This one's right up there with "Fireflies", for me.

As much as I love Prince, I sometimes have to tune out his lyrics ... such as this one:
"Baby I'm a star / Might not know it now / Baby, but I are."

Loved LIVE. Ed Kowalchik or whatever his name is, is still a helluva singer, and I loved their music -- until I heard these lyrics off the Mental Jewelry album. The song is 10,000 years - Peace is Now

Mr. President?
I hereby pardon you of all your crimes
For they are just as much mine

It's a shame their sonic intensity has to be filtered through hippy-shit lyrics.

"Only tragedy allows the release of love and grief never normally seen." - Kate Bush

Duh.

"My love is like a Cuban plane flying from Havana / Up the Florida coast to the 'Glades / Soviet made...Our love is like the border between Greece and Albania / Trucks loaded down with weapons / Crossing over every night"
- John Darnelle.

Just kidding - I think that is a fabulous lyric, but the metaphor IS a tortured one.

"Every day a little sadder, A little madder
Someone get me a ladder"

- Emerson Lake and palmer "still...you turn me on"

Planning on doing some painting, Greg? Clean the leaves out of the gutter, perhaps?

"This ole heart of mine been broke a thousand times" -- Rod Stewart

Fuck you, Rod. I have no desire to live up to your masochistic romantic standards.

Actually, that one is a Holland-Dozier-Holland song, originally recorded by the Isley Brothers. (Not that Rod doesn't deserve plenty of sneers and dismissals, for any number of reasons.)

Plus I'm sure Rod lived that line too, Del.
