Mr. Wakeling is playing in my town (Colorado Springs) on 21 March.

The English Beat gave a great show in Colorado Springs Monday night. This is the third time in five years that I've seen Wakeling playing the good ol' songs with his touring band, and it was the best yet. Sound quality was excellent, his band was tight and sharp, and Dave's voice is still in fine shape. And he's lost a bit of weight in the past six months or so; he looks terrific, and was in very good spirits.

If any of you have been put off by the idea of seeing the "Ersatz Beat," take my advice: just let it go, and get a ticket to see the band if they come to your area. Have fun.

Nice call, Delvin. I had the same experience in December. The band was great (as you pointed out), and, yes, Dave was trim and clearly off the booze and cigs and was only drinking coconut water (one of my preferred refreshments). Your advice is sound. I'd even wager that the current "Beat" are better than the original. My wife said that she had never seen me so happy (and had never seen me dance before--not pretty, I can assure you). I saw him in 2001 in NYC, with Ira and a couple of other colleagues at the time, and it was a decent show, but not as good as now.

Agreed, I've been having that feeling for about 25 years, STEVE. I think it's nice that we all care enough about STEVE to always capitalize. That's what this forum is about. . .
