Did anyone catch Monsters of Folk on ACL? I thought that was stellar.

God that was good.
Having seen them so many times I could project myself there.
Never underestimate how good that band is in person.

What this performance underscored to me was something I'd forgotten, or maybe never really understood: that despite all the avant-garde tendencies, the art rock, the boundary-pushing, the dissonance and everything else for which the band is known, they are at heart a rock & roll band.

Not that everybody appreciated them. Most of the viewer comments we've gotten have focused on the Black Keys (who were quite good, so no offense to them), except for the guy who called me - not e-mailed, which is what most folks do - to complain about Sonic Youth.

They're quite beast with Ibold on bass. Is the whole performance available somewhere?

Alas, no. Maybe someday.

I really like the Ibold line-up live.
