I go to the gym at lunch time with some guys at work. I'm generally the ringleader, so when I try to round everyone up for that day, I do it like this:

"To quote Adam Ant, 'Don't be square, be there!'"

I've been to known to toss off the Nomeansno quote: "If every third animal is a beetle, maybe every third human is a dumb fuck."

Plus the Beastie Boys: "I got money, like Charles Dickens. Got the girlies in the coop like the Colonel's got the chickens."

Re: Quotes

I doubt a week goes by in which I don't repeat one or more of the following:

"Hi, I'm Fred–the Cancerian from New Jersey–I like collecting records and exploring the cave of the unknown"

"Hello, I'm Cindy and I'm a PisCES, and I like chihuahua and Chinese Noodles!"

"Hi, my name is Ricky and I'm a Pisces, I love computers and hot tamales"

"Hey, I'm Kate and I am a Taurus, I lo-o-ove tomatoes and black-capped chickadees"

"Hey, my name is Keith and I'm a Scorpio from Athens, G-A, and I like to find the essence from within"

I think I have "Song for a Future Generation"-specific Tourette Syndrome.

"From here to here it ain't far enough, but from here to here it's too short"

I've been known to say "Charlie don't surf" when asked to do something I have no desire to do. It's from Apocalypse Now, of course, but I picked it up by way of the Clash. (The general response is "who the hell is Charlie?")

"You just haven't earned it yet, baby."

"Drink, Harry, drink til you can't drink no more of anything."

Re: Quotes
January 20, 2011 12:12PM
I don't have quotes running through my head. Which is odd, since I'm generally a lyrically focused guy. Instead, I have riffs:

Sugar, "Feeling Better"
L7, "Pretend We're Dead"
Sinead O'Connor, "Mandinka" and "Emperor's New Clothes"

are a few that I often find myself humming of late. And, of course, the Who. I'm sure there are others.
Re: Quotes

I'm going Dylan:

"And it's a hard, and it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard / A hard rain's a-gonna fall. . . "

(frequently quoted by me while either calculating final grades or watching the Celtics)

"May you grow up to be righteous / May you grow up to be true / May you always know the truth / And see the lights surrounding you / May you always be courageous / Stand upright and be strong / May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young / May you stay forever young."

(when my kids are old enough, I will put this in their birthday cards. my mom put it in mine long ago, and the simplicity and purity of the sentiment--from such an unfathomable songwriter--still chokes me up a bit)
