The fact that Janelle Monae is lumped in with hip-hop/R&B says more about her skin tone than it does the actual content of her album.

I wouldn't call what she does hip-hop, but for all the futuristic trappings and associations with Of Montreal, the bedrock of that record sounds like 70s soul and disco to me. Which is just fine by me.
