No More Lists: the Nearly December Own-Up

One album. Yes, I said one album. Of the year.

It was a showdown between Best Coast and the Love Language.

The Love Language's "Libraries" wins out. . .

After listening to quite a few online, I've only heard one that I've liked enough to buy:

Arcade Fire - The Suburbs

Jeez, nothing has really knocked my socks off in year of our lord 2010. I've really enjoyed this record "I See The Sign" by Sam Amidon ever since it came out. It sounds like the Ass Ponies meet the Palace Brothers with a lot of pretty strings on top. I also really liked records by Pantha Du Prince and Broken Social Scene but ooops..... I just broke the rules.

Be curious what others liked.

One album? Damn, you're a hard man, Erik.

It'll probably change tomorrow, but at the moment it's Northern Aggression by Steve Wynn & the Miracle 3.

Although there were top-notch efforts from the likes of Bettie Serveert(!), Superchunk(!!), Hoodoo Gurus(!!!), Spoon, Janelle Monae, Crowded House, Das Racist, Love is All, The National, Marina & the Diamonds, of Montreal, The Gaslight Anthem, School of Seven Bells and The Hold Steady, I'd probably have to go with Lawrence Arabia's Chant Darling...

To my ears, this has been the song of 2010:

Of course, I'm still trying to process the 41 songs Bradford Cox dropped the last 3 days (http://deerhuntertheband.blogspot.com/).

I haven't listened to a lot of new music this year, but the new Devo was played the most in my house -- so far.

The best album I bought this year was Home Schooled: The ABCs of Kid Soul, an amazing collection of local kid groups playing some fantastic R&B.

I'll second the Love Language.

I predicted it on this board previously, but my hands down album of the year is Paul Collins, King of Power Pop.

The title track to that album is the latest in a long line of "shoulda been a hit"s. It's funny and wistful and catchy as hell.

Best Coast are coming to Sydney in March. Curiously, they're supporting Os Mutantes but they're doing another show, too. I'm there.
