Bruce shreds

Having just checked out this link, I have a question...by "shreds," do mean his guitar playing or vocal chords? I think I can make a better argument for the latter...the singing is awful.

As for the guitar playing, I suppose you can call this "shredding" by Bruce's standards. While not even close to a technically gifted soloist, he does manage to produce some very emotional solos, this one included. "Candy's Room" is another great example.

I went to a Bruce Springsteen tribute band (Tramps Like Us) at the local football stadium / entertainment complex on Friday. (I know, I know - this doesnt exactly earn a gold star for robot boy on this board) It was a recreation of some supposedly legendary concert from 1978, so all the material was from Darnkess on The Edge Of Town or prior. To me, that was a bummer since Darkness is the one early Bruce album that really does very little for me. I would have liked to hear some River, Born In THe USA tracks. They did Because The Night and Candy's Room, etc.

I am pretty sure I enjoyed this concert more than I would have enjoyed an actual Bruce concert. $15 ticket. Relatively intimate setting. Vocalist sang much better than Bruce himself sings. He captured the essence of Bruce's singing without the awful shredded larynx sound. Guitar playing was tighter than Bruce and Little Stevie. Minimal posturing and hugging and hamming. All in all a very enjoyable show.

I don't patronize tribute bands, so I wouldn't know, but I hope this sparks a thread: what tribute bands are actually better than the original bands?

First time for me also. It was refreshingly down to earth after listening to Sufjan's crazy alien music the night before. Ugh, did that require a pallette cleanser.

And I think that the "midget" tribute to KISS is conceptually better than the original band. They should do a short film tribute to "Kiss Meets The Phantom of the Park."

There ought to be at least one scene of the band all walking past the entrance to a ride with one of those "you-must-be-at-least-this-tall" cutouts and scoffing.

My favorite line from the original movie was "Cool it, Starchild!" or "Relax, Starchild!"

I can't remember which was the actual line.

I would love to see a midget tribute to Kiss Meets the Phantom. (It couldn't possibly come out worse than the original.)
