A film that has really gotten under my skin over the years is Performance with James Fox, Anita Pallenberg and Mick Jagger. For those of you who haven't seen it, it's a phantasmagoric orgy about a dapper, artistic and brutal British gangster on the lam who hides out in the flat of a burned-out, debauched has-been rock star and his familiars. The two leads are sort of doppelgangers, who sort of merge after an orgy of drugs, violence and Moroccan furniture.
I've come to believe I was born to write the screenplay for the remake, although I have never written anything more than some bad college term papers, preliminary injunctions and parody songs on my guitar. Therefore, I need a co-writer with strong editing skills and a trust fund to work on the following:
The remake takes place in Los Angeles, circa late 80s or early 90s. The dapper brutal gangsta on the lam is from Compton. He hides out in the Hills, in a home he believes is vacant but is actually occupied by a burned-out, debauched has-been musician and his wimmen, and who is based on 1) Rick James; 2) an amalgamation of Dr. Dre and NWA; 3) Phil Spector or 4) Axl Rose. I'm leaning toward the first. Instead of opium, hallucinogenics and Moroccan furniture, we have Nagel prints and more lines than the Atchison-Topeka railway. The two leads are sort of doppelgangers who sort of merge into an amalgamation of every "Behind the Music" episode aired between 1999 and 2004.
Anyone up for the challenge? Anyone suggest a different setting? Who would be cast as the leads?
