Teenage Fanclub

The band does a very nice interview and a set of live tracks from their latest album on the NYT Popcast podcast. It's surprisingly - or not - gorgeous, and "Baby Lee" sounds like it could have been a Byrds-Left Banke hybrid. I haven't ever seen them in concert but I'm sufficiently impressed that I want to hear the new record - and I haven't bought a full album of theirs since maybe Thirteen.

They just seem like one of those really nice, but kind of faceless, bands - perhaps an artifact of having three singers and songwriters and no real "frontman" (See: Sloan). But the cumulative body of their work is more impressive when you hear it in toto. The compilation Four Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty-Six Seconds is loaded with great stuff.

4,766 is indeed a solid comp. The new album has its moments too.

I haven't heard the new album yet, but am interested to check it out. I'm sad that I'm gonna miss them and Superchunk playing together here this Friday, but I'll be out of town, dadgummit.

My feelings about Teenage Fanclub are that if you have Bandwagonesque, then you don't need anything else. The other albums are good and worth a listen; however, they're cut from the same mold as Bandwagonesque, which is the best of the bunch. That said, I haven't heard the new one...is it more of the (enjoyable and competent) same?
