I couldn't care less about American Idol, but I find it amusing that Joe Perry seems to believe Aerosmith still has some credibility left to be damaged by Steven Tyler's possible employment as a judge on a reality show. Sorry, Joe, but two decades worth of recording Diane Warren power ballads for the soundtracks to Michael Bay movies already put you boys in the Teenage-Mutant Ninja Turtle camp long ago.

I suspect he's just irritated that they asked Tyler and not himself.

I was just writing an e-mail last night to a friend who said she'd recently flown on an airplane with Billy Idol. Has anyone ever asked him if he'd like to be a judge on that wretched little television program?

He's been away for so long ... it'd be a nice way to start again.

Actually, Billy's done fairly well in the past five years. He's reunited with Stevens and Forsey, released a new studio album and toured fairly regularly. (None of which is to say he wouldn't be worth considering as a possible judge on AI.)

Don't worry, Joe. You can turn your quest for a new singer into your own reality show, just like INXS. And with the same results, probably.

Actually, with even worse results. The two surviving members of TLC did select a singer through a reality show, but only recorded one track with her. And even that track was available only as a download, to buyers of the later-released TLC compilation album. At least the other members of INXS did record a full album and tour with their new singer ... and, despite some issues, reportedly will soon tour with him again.
