Hey, Aitch, know anything about an Australian band from the 80s called the Kryptonics?

According to the blurb on the front of their compilation CD (one of my assignments for the next issue of The Big Takeover), it says it's "Australian 1980s Detroit Rock-fuelled power pop featuring future members of Lubricated Goat, You Am I, Hard-Ons, Radio Birdman, Chevelles, Challenger 7 & New Christs" and "For fans of Hoodoo Gurus, Lime Spiders, Scientists, the Stems & Radio Birdman."

In other words, they sound genetically bred to be my rock & roll bride. I'm almost afraid to take it out of the plastic. It can't possibly live up to my now sky-high expectations.

That's a great song title, at least. I'm gonna remember that.

but be forewarned, i think most of those "future members of..." were drummers. winking smiley russell hopkinson...you and i and birdman; peter kostic...hard-ons; brett ford...lubricated goat...but ian underwood's (singer, song-writer, guitar player) challenger 7 put out some really good stuff, too!

Yeah, I figured it wasn't any of the main dudes. I'd never heard of Challenger 7 before this blurb, but if I dig Kryptonics, I'll go digging.

You could say that the '80s were a pretty cool time for Perth bands and a lot of those bands had that garagey thing going on for sure. Coming from the most isolated city on earth, they only came to Sydney a couple of times that I remember. Just saw them the one time and that was the tail-end of their set supporting the Hard-Ons. It was a while ago, but I remember liking them more than the Hard Ons.
