Re: Bobby Goldsboro

Bobby Goldsboro

I'm watching an infomercial for Time/Life and they're talking about how wonderful Bobby Goldsboro was.

Myself, I think he was depressing as hell. How anyone could listen to him without killing themselves is beyond me.

Same thing with friggin' Gilbert O'Sullivan. Every time I have insomnia, the oldies station decides to play goddamn "Alone Again, Naturally" which is NOT a song anyone needs to hear at damn 3 AM, and I'm always amazed that oldies stations decide to play it then. Are they TRYING to kill people?

Maybe they figure that if you're depressed enough you won't have the energy or will to change the channel or turn off the radio? But seriously, it is common knowledge that people who feel their lives are unfulfilled are prime targets for advertisers who want to convince you that buying their stuff will make you happier.

Goldsboro loses me at the line "I surprised her with a puppy." People who like his music tend to be collectors of unicorn tchotchkes, in my opinion.

Another one I don't understand (who is considered more credible because he was doing lines off of strippers asses with John Lennon for a couple of months) is Harry Nilsson.

Nilsson Schmilsson is what I say.

When People Were Shorter and Lived Near the Water did a whole album of Bobby Goldsboro covers, and one listen through was enough to convince me I didn't like either one.

Nilsson made some great records and a lot of trash, pull the wheat out and there's quite a lot to enjoy.breno wrote:

I love his "hair" in that infomercial. It looks like the hairpiece for one of those Lego toy people.

Blas: Your quotes around "hair" are classic--big guffaw on that one.

This doesn't relate to Goldsboro at all, but I didn't want to start a new thread, although I'm sure there's a thread in here someplace.

I was in my local record store the other day and I saw that Jonathan Edwards (Sunshine go away today ...) had a new live album out. For whatever reason I picked it up and looked at the song list and there was no Sunshine!!!

Who goes to a Jonathan Edwards show (in generall) and who goes and doesn't want to hear his one hit?

I found the whole thing galling. You're a one-hit wonder. Get over it and play your hit.

Rant over.

Well, I always root for the one-hit wonder to squeeze another hit out of himself/herself. You can't blame him for trying.
