Best Night Ever?

Just ordered from Amazon: 200 Motels DVD, The Apple DVD, and the new Fleshtones comp, and turned to my wife: "Wow, I wish I could find a copy of Speed Connection 2. That's one of my favorite albums ever." Slightly buzzed from painkillers, I head to iTunes, where it has just been put up today. All mine, baby.

One of the best nights ever. Can't even feel the kidney stone right now.

You may not feel quite so giddy once you actually sit down and watch The Apple.

Dear God, I love The Apple. I admire the fact that they had a dream, no money, and no talent, and did not let that stop them for an instant.

And... arrival. That Fleshtones IRS Years CD is amazing -- a great collection. The Apple is still what it is and I love it, but 200 Motels is interesting. It's presented as "Tony Palmer Presents Frank Zappa's 200 Motels", meaning it's his attempt to take over the narrative of the film's background and give himself some more credit than he's gotten. The film is still a huge mess, but the symphonic music is amazing, a few of the songs are okay, and there's a great joke where George Duke, as part of a series of shots of guys looking into mirrors and practicing their "Groupie" lines says: "I carry around a copy of Down Beat, so I can show the ladies I know what's happening!"

Get that Fleshtones CD. Between it, Speed Conenction 2 on iTunes, and the early Blast Off! Sessions CD, this is a great time to be a Fleshtones fan.
