What's Your Haul?

I picked up an Andy Fairweather Low album, Sweet Soulful Music, for $5 bucks and the new live Plimsouls at my local independent record store today.

No Record Store Day shopping for me. A sick wife sometimes will interfere with such plans.

I'm exceptionally poor right now and was unable to participate. Alas. I'd like to know what everyone else got, though.

No pity for me, though, as I had free platinum passes to the Old Settlers Music Festival. Even in the thunderstorms trying to drown Central Texas, Patty Griffin is a wonder.

Nothing that I couldn't have bought on Friday (i.e., none of the Rec Store Day specials), but I still managed to spend $125. Among other things, I found an original vinyl pressing of Bongo Fury and got the expanded reissues of Another Music In A Different Kitchen and My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts (on double vinyl with gatefold sleeve, no less). Also got that new Roky Erickson/Okkervil River Lp and the new High On Fire disc. Haven't listened to any of 'em yet though; will report back later.

i wish mrs delvin a speedy turnaround.

music: something often worth the price, i always say.

My Record Store Day did not go as planned. I made it to my local 15 minutes before opening and it was a straight up mob scene. Once they opened, I spent about a half hour trying to actually find some stuff (the RSD exclusives I was interested in either weren't there or had already been grabbed by the time I made it to the displays). Nonetheless, I had several items to purchase (the usual random used stuff + Steve Almond's Rock & Roll Will Save Your Life), but nothing I had to buy that morning...

...so the line to check out is 15 deep, there's one register, and I am supposed to be walking over to the new house (a couple of blocks from the place) of one of my friends (who bought coffee for everyone while we waited for the store to open) and seeing his wife and kids for the first time in like 6 months, and they have stuff to do, and I have to take my kids to a birthday party at a fire station in a couple of hours, and I grudgingly decide to put everything back. Which I do.

I had planned on hitting a couple more stores if possible, but the whole experience left me feeling pretty discouraged.
