Moles are kinda cute. It's the shrew that's actually poisonous. To get over this little predatory trauma, I recommend viewing The Incredible Shrinking Man and Attack of the Killer Shrews.

I have a mole that is tearing up my back yard. Can your cat come over?

BTW, this is the second one I've had. A couple of years ago, the little bugger got arrogant and stayed above ground a little bit too long...he is now an ex-mole.

Or maybe I have a gopher...what's the difference?

The Residents never made any recordings about gophers.

Is Mole Man about to give ol' Fred a good whacking?

Obviously then, Poison is what to put on the boombox. If your moles start showing up on reality TV, though, it's your fault.

To stop said mole, buy a small, cheap portable radio and tune it to the clearest, loudest hard rock or metal station in your area. Put the radio near one of the holes or down in one of the holes and let it play until the batteries die. That's how you get them to go away without resorting to poison or smells. I am not joking about this. I heard it on a gardening show.

Poison would be compassionate compared to 24/7 metal bombardment. That headbanging stuff causes permanent brain damage. Just note the dazed and confused expressions of its victims.

Owl City would also work, although everything within range would die of cavities.

My kid's got this book on "Tiny And Giant" things and it's got a picture of a (tiny) shrew eating a (gaint) worm. Creeps me out every time.

Was it The Mole from The Ministry?

...

There was an XTC thread goin' a while back, and I was boosting "Skylarking."

But pound for pound, my favorite item in Mr. Partridge's oeuvre is "Chips From The Chocolate Fireball" by the mysterious Dukes Of Stratosphere. Read the TP review and then go and find a copy. Hell! Download a copy. It's all the rage. I think this one is out of print, but who knows?

The whole exercise would be rather pointless if the songs were not so damned excellent.

"What In The World?" is my personal favorite. I love a tune that laments how unruly and rude the children are getting ("Do you remember when this life was in perspective, and the grown-ups were respected?) Pricelessly cheeky!

... And the Beach Boys transmogrification at the end of "Pale & Precious" is worth the price of admission - if you find nothing else worth your time.

Can't believe that they never offered another helping. Boo freaking hoo!

-----

Too bad about the mole.
