Saw these guys in Boston the other night and thought they were pretty damn talented and pretty damn listenable. I am actively trying to acquire the taste for their recorded output. I've only got Satanic Panic and think about half of it is as good as vintage XTC. How about a TP entry to sort out their fairly vast catalog?

After hearing a handful of their psych/pop records and thinking they were OK but nothing special, I had a come-to-Jesus moment seeing them live at Fun Fun Fun Fest this year. It had been a while since I'd listened, since they'd evolved from the quirky psych pop band I knew to a psych/glam/disco/conceptual monster. They were loads of fun and the music was more memorable. But, like you, I don't know where to begin in regards to their recent output. I hope someone takes up your suggestion.

I'm not really knowledgeable about the band in the slightest, but I must see that what I hear is unfailingly creative, catchy, and surprising - even the fact they can pretty much do disco music ("So Begins Our Alabee") and I like it. Also, good taste in cover material. I have MP3s of them covering Bowie, the Shins, and the Who.

Disco indeed. And soul! They ended the show with an impeccable cover of The Jackson Five's I Want You Back.

So they opted out of their original band name?
