Bands named after movies

Bands named after movies

There's a few of them.

There should be a band called Terror is a Man - a B thriller. I gotta see it 'cause of the title.

My Bloody Valentine is the most obvious I can think of.

There's a British band called Terrorvision - isn't that the name of a movie?

10,000 Maniacs were mis-named after the movie 2000 Maniacs.

King Kong
Rodan
Destroy All Monsters
They Might Be Giants
Courage of Lassie

Gojira (the Japanese title of Godzilla) is another monster movie-themed band name.

That would be a rich strain, especially with the movies from the 90s and 'aughts. Some enterprising young acts should take Megaguirus, Destoroyah, Biollante, Hedorah, King Ghidorah or Megalodon. Or maybe War of the Gargantuas. Or maybe Gyaos or Irys from the 90s Gamera series.

Yes, I'm a Kaiju geek.

Meet Danny Wilson, Faster Pussycat

and I found this - band-n-movies

Three from Russ Meyer - there's still time to name yours "Ultravixen". Vixen is also a Meyer movie but I doubt that band got their name from it.

I was on a Meyer kick a few years ago and realized that "Ultravixen" would make a great band name. Surely someone somewhere is using it - it can't be going to waste.

Mr Blonde
Ice Nine
Duran Duran
Always wondered if The Birthday Party was any kind of Pinter homage.
Ended up a pretty good movie with Robert Shaw nice and kooky.
Does The Go Betweens count?

Ice Nine

That's from "Cat's Cradle" which hasn't been made into a movie. Not yet, at least. And considering the sorry track record of Vonnegut film-izations, hopefully never.

If there's a band called Girlschool, there should also be a band called
Satan's School for Girls, another B movie. I gotta see it. I hear Cheryl Ladd's in it.

Not sure what I was thinking Fab, but your comment leads me to the realisation that I have not seen ANY of the Vonnegut film-izations.
Should I not bother? As fate would have it, my favourite three are the ones that are films.

The movie version of Slaughterhouse Five has its defenders, but not a whole lot. Valerie Perrine was naked in it, but back then it was more rare for her to be clothed in a movie.

The film versions of Breakfast of Champions and Slapstick have no defenders whatsoever, as far as I know. Watching Slapstick was so depressing I briefly considered joining Joy Division after seeing it, and I love the book Breakfast of Champions too much to ever subject myself to the movie.

throw in steiger, lord morley, underrated talent bobby morse, and the fetching liberace, and this might have been THE cast of the 60's

Anyone remember S*M*A*S*H?

Goldfinger

The Loved Ones (take your pick of bands, I'll assume they're all named after the mid-sixties Tony Richardson/Terry Southern adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's The Loved One, which starred too many light heavyweights to recount)
