Whatever happened to?
September 10, 2005 03:51AM
Just a few people who I'm wondering if anyone has any information on, as I've not heard a peep about them in years (or decades in some cases). Are they alive, dead, or still involved in music in any way shape or form?

Bram Tchaikovsky

Nick Garvey of the Motors

Tony Mansfield of New Musik & popular producer in the 80s

Jimme O'Neil of Fingerprintz & the Silencers

David Fenton of the Vapors

Lene Lovich & Les Chappell

Danielle Dax

TV Smith

Wazmo Nariz

Robin Lane

Joe "King" Carrasco

Claire Grogan from Altered Images, Bill Forsyth movies and Red Dwarf

Slim Jim Phantom & Lee Rocker

Lee Ving

Chris Holmes (I think that was his name) from Yum Yum and Sabulon Glitz

Kendra Smith

The Pole Cats were great...though of course Boz Boorer is making a much better living as a Morrissey sideman. They had a reunion in '89...I don't think much happened after that.

TV Smith is still active in music. He released his last solo record in 2003, and he also has a pretty good website:

I believe Lee Ving still lives in Austin. He occasionally goes out on tour as Fear, but with none of the other original members. I suspect he's become more of a family man these days, oddly enough.

Lene and Les are playing Joe's Pub(NYC)this Monday. Saw them a year ago at the same venue. She's still kooky as ever and her voice didn't falter one bit. Allegedly a brand new album is on the verge of being released.

Danielle Dax......last I heard she was immersed in interior design(and gardening). In '95 she self-released and EP called 'Timber Tongue' which was very reminiscent of her experimental Lemon Kittens days.

I caught TV Smith at Maxwells(Hoboken, NJ)some years back. His first set was acoustic then backed by a full band(w/ Jack Rabid on drums). He treated us to "Gary Gilmore's Eyes" and a few other Adverts classics....and a cover of the Weirdos "We've Got The Neutron Bomb"

Clare Grogan was on the 2nd album by the 6ths which is a project of Stephen Merritt from the Magnetic Fields. It also features Gary Numan, Sara Cracknell, Marc Almond, Bob Mould, etc.

Forgot about Clare being on that 6ths album.

Very cool about Lene and Les - hope the rumor of a new album is true.

"Slim Jim Phantom & Lee Rocker"

Both have their own, non-noteworthy bands and (despite being anathema to the harcore rockabilly cats) still play on the USA-Euro rockabilly circuit. (Rocker more consistently than Phantom.) Weird to think they were on stage with George Harrison, Carl Perkins and Dave Edmunds 20 years ago (documented on "Carl Perkins & Friends" DVD).

clare married stephan lironi the guitar player from altered images. He produced Black Grape and worked with Alan Vega on a bunch of things. Unfortunately he also gave us Hanson and Bon Jovi "Destination Anywhere".

Think it was Slim Jim Phantom who had a popular night at a Sunset Strip club, a loose, informal jam-night, usually featuring Steve Jones, Billy Idol, Slash, etc.

Unless it was Lee Rocker.

And we STILL haven't heard what happenned to Sue Tissue of The Suburban Lawns.
